VRC's Imaging Specialist James Soque, CRA, OCT-C, COA, FOPS was one of the distinguished lectures for the 54th Annual Educational Program of the Ophthalmic Photographers' Society, held at the Westin St Francis Hotel, Union Square, San Francisco, CA. On November 3,4,5, 2023, members of the Ophthalmic Photographers' Society (www.opswebb.org), descended on San Francisco as well as members of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, (www.aao.org).  

James presented two lectures, "The Advanced Spectral Domain OCT Lecture", in conjunction with co-author Oliva P. Rainey, OCT-C, COA, Grand Rapids, MI,  and also presented "The Advanced Ultra Wide Field Lecture, California Optos Specific“ lecture for the OPS.   

He also served as an instructor in, SD-OCT, Fundus Photography, Ultra Wide-Field photography, and also served as the general chair of the entire program.  

James introduced many colleagues and physician speakers throughout the program, including the Education Chair, Ms. Hannah Sheppard and the J. Donald Gass Lecturer Speaker, Dr. Deeba Hussain, Harvard Medical School.   

Not only did his obligations extend inside of the realm of OPS education, but he was also selected to partake in a focus group with “Zeiss Meditech”, of Dublin, California, aiding in the fine tuning of software imaging programs and also discussed the needs of imagers, and physicians in ophthalmology.

James is an elected official with the OPS serving on The Board Of Education, and on The Board of Directors as The OPS Vice President for the next two years.  

The VP also serves as this program's General Chair and this most recent meeting of the OPS is a culmination of nearly a year's worth of planning and preparation from all of the members of the OPS Board Of Education and Board Of Directors.  He is also a Fellow Of The OPS, a scholarly society within the OPS, of which there are only 52 members.

In addition to his obligations as a Lecturer and Workshop instructor he also presented the Vice President's Report at the 2023 OPS Business meeting, and met with future educators of the Singapore National Eye Center in hopes of developing an Eye Imaging Program abroad in Singapore, Vietnam, and Thailand.
