April 2023
Spring is here and we are doing well with COVID-19. We are still masking up in the office to protect our vulnerable patient population.
The NY State Department of Health put out this statement on February 10, 2023:” All personnel, regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status, in a healthcare setting (i.e., facilities or entities regulated under Articles 28, 36, and 40 of the Public Health Law) should wear an appropriate face mask according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Interim Infection Prevention and Control Recommendations for Healthcare Personnel During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Pandemic.”
The good news is that we have a vaccine that targets BA.4/BA0.5 sub variants of Omicron and it is readily available. Unfortunately, only 14.8% of the population in Suffolk County has received it.
The CDC guidelines include:
- Wait at least 2 months from your last COVID-19 vaccine,
- Boosters from Pfizer or Moderna can be given to people ages 5 and older, after a primary series
- Boosters from Moderna can be given to children 6 months to 5 years after a primary series.
In Suffolk County, our numbers of Covid cases are low and continue to trend down. There were 310 new cases this week, and less than 10 deaths. 97.5% of the population in Suffolk County has received the primary series of Covid19 vaccinations.
At Island Retina we are being very diligent with screening, masking, cleaning, disinfecting, maintaining social distancing, keeping the waiting room limited to patients only, and checking temperatures. If you have symptoms, don’t come to the office, call your doctor and get screened for COVID-19. Dr. Weber can do a Telehealth meeting and help you make a plan for your care.
Let’s enjoy the spring season together!
